As if appearing both the Conjurers and Trenchcoat Brigade mini-series weren't enough, The Phantom Stranger makes an appearance in this JLA/JSA team-up, in a setting that looks sorta familiar:
The Stranger didn't have much of a presence in this version of the classic JLA; too bad, he was always a nice contrast to the regular members of the team.

With Morrison's overt fondness for the silver age JLA, you might expect one story with the Stranger playing a more pivotal role. Oh well. I do recall an interview in which he said his use of Dream (the Gaiman character) in another JLA story was a sort of homage to the way the Stranger used to show up in the old JLA. BTW, I really like this page as a way to recap the previous issue and establish the scale of the threat. Even if it does perpetuate the "quintessence" notion.

Stupid Quintessence. VERY stupid Quintessence set decades before Kingdom Come, when it makes NO SENSE AT ALL.
