The Spectre (Vol.2) #3 - June 1987

sg
"Justice Beyond The Flesh" by Doug Moench, Gene Colan, and Steve Mitchell.

During this issue, we take another brief detour into the land between Heaven and Earth, and, like last issue, The Phantom Stranger is there escort the newly dead on their proper path:

I love the way Colan has the Stranger coming out of the light like that, and we never see his face. A really nice, creepy (but also strangely comforting) effect!

The Stranger was acting as psychopomp back then? I didn't know that! Just think, a year or so later, and Death from Sandman would probably have been tapped for this appearance. Glad we got to see him here.

You know, I remember this series. I was/am a big fan of the Spectre and thought it was great the Gene Colan was doing the art. Too bad he left after like 6 issues or so. I thought he did a fine Phantom Stranger and would have liked to see more of it.
