JLA/Avengers #3 - Dec. 2003

sg
"Strange Adventures" by Kurt Busiek and George Perez.

After a whole bunch of magical hugger-mugger courtesy the Marvel villain The Grandmaster, The Phantom Stranger finally steps in:
sg
...the Stranger escorts all the heroes (and that's a lot of people!) to another dimension, where he leads them to a nearly-dead Grandmaster.

Turns out this the work of the even more evil bad guy Krona, and the collective teams vow to take him on.

Sadly, the Stranger disappears from the story at this point, but points to Busiek and Perez for making sure he was included, in some way (he's on the wraparound cover, too, along with what looks like every single DC and Marvel hero except for Pete Cannon: Thunderbolt!).

Man, this series was gold IMO. Though I think it was just now i relized how much Perez's Aquaman (with a beard) looks like Thor (with a beard).

So many things look good here, Thor is costume acting like Thor, Steve Rogers is Cap, J'onn, Janet & Arthur are alive. *sigh* I think I'll go find my copies of this and just devour them looking at the great art.

I don't know about every DC and Marvel hero, but I know they were trying to get every past and present JLAer and Avenger on there, and at this point in their histories, that was pretty much everybody. BTW, DC had returned the rights to Thunderbolt to the estate of Pete Morisi, so they couldn't have used him. Fortunately, he'd never been a JLAer.

That depends on how Justice League membership is qualified. Peter Cannon was recruited into the Justice League Task Force for a mission against some superpowered neo-Nazis.
Of course there are other operatives that also didn't appear in JLA/Avengers (Dolphin, the original Hourman, etc.) so I guess that's not enough to count. But honorary member Adam Strange DID show up ...

His appearance may have been brief, but it was a perfect role for him. One of my favorite scenes from this excellent series. Though I do think aquaman's reaction was over the top, even for his bearded phase.
